Welcome to our journey, our story.
There are many people who are struggling with the same issue my husband and I are, there are many forums/groups/list serves which can offer up stories and information, there are also many people in our lives with whom we can comfortably talk to on a daily basis, but I've decided that this is the best form of therapy for myself. I'm able to get it off my chest and put it all out there for the world to see when they choose, instead of continuing to feel like all I have are my woes to offer. Many people are uncomfortable with this subject, but I believe there is nothing taboo about the world of pregnancy, infertility, breast feeding, etc. So, let this be your warning to continue no further if you have a sensitive stomach.
We made an appointment last Thursday to see my OBGYN to make 'a plan'.
Since, we had only been trying 9 months since our miscarriage to get pregnant I envisioned the conversation going something like this:
Doctor: (while looking at the manfriend) Do you wear boxers?
Manfriend: No, I wear boxer-briefs.
Doctor: Well, you should switch to boxers. (he then turns towards me) Do you take prenatals?
Me: Yes, sir.
Doctor: Good. Keep on doing what you're doing. It'll happen for you again.
But, much to my surprise and excitement he decided to start doing work-ups. That means a fun little ditty for the manfriend and some invasive testing on my end, starting with an HSG and blood work.
I spent the majority of yesterday being anxious about today's HSG test. In fact, the yoga for fertility class couldn't take much of the edge off for me.
Then came the point in the day that I was dreading. 12:30pm, 800mg of ibuprofen in my system, all paperwork filled out and insurance card copied, I was ready to get this test over with. The X-ray tech comes to talk with me for a second time, assuming that she is going to take to me to the nearest restroom to take the pregnancy test she warned me about, we stop in the hallway. She goes on about how sorry she is that I've been waiting so long and that they now have to send me home. Of course, I'm confused and don't understand anything until she continues to explain that the radiologist is not comfortable doing an X-ray on a woman who is past 10 days in her cycle and actively trying to conceive. You see, today is day 11 in my cycle and for whatever reason my OBGYN scheduled the test for today. Confused? Me too.
Change scene. I have a moment in my car with poor manfriend on the phone. Poor manfriend.
On the up side, I did get two Chipotle and a King Sooper's gift card from the X-ray tech for the inconvenience. I also got a phone call on my drive home from my OBGYN telling me how sorry and upset they are that the hospital did not contact them, and that they are going to resolve the situation and will call me tomorrow. Let's just all call it a loss for an HSG this month and get some Chipotle.
